Meet Princess

For Princess, going back to school isn't just about achieving her own goals—it's also about showing her daughter what's possible.

Meet Princess, one of the many extraordinary women we're proud to support at EdNavigator this Women's History Month. Princess' Navigator, Alyssa Owens, says: "Princess does a really good job advocating for herself. She's in constant communication with her professors and seeks support whenever she's struggling. It's so inspiring to see how much she pushes herself and pushes the school to get what she needs. I think it's really paid off, too."

"I went back to school because I wanted to let my daughter know everybody can do it. Don't get me wrong, it's been challenging, working full time and having a two year old. I work two PM to twelve AM shifts. When you get off, you're tired. Finding time to study has been challenging, and managing getting my daughter to nursery, and getting to class when daycare is closed or she’s sick. It has been hard, but I'm overcoming it. I've been out of school for ten-plus years. But it was important for me to go back to school to learn how to run a business so I can move up in the corporation, most likely in human resources.

I’m doing two classes right now at Delgado Community College. I’d like to do three classes a semester. I've given myself a good two years, at least, to get my associates degree. EdNavigator is really helping me succeed. I needed help with my algebra course, and I got connected with a math tutor. My Navigator, Alyssa, helped me find that resource, so I could get help and pass my courses. She sends me a lot of information. I really appreciate EdNavigator. I take full advantage of it. Now I really can't wait for my daughter to get in school, so we can work together on that.

I'm not going to lie. At times I just want to quit because I'm tired. But I look at my daughter and I keep pushing through because this is something I really want. I want my daughter to know that anything is possible. You might have challenges but you don't have to stop. Sometimes it's just going to take a little more time. I don't want her to think that just because Mama had a child and was working full time, that I couldn’t achieve my goals."
